The text below contains some spoilers , so we recommend you stop reading here if you don't want to know about content that are present in the game before playing.
The story can be exciting in the right measure
If you are expecting the story to start slowly to start unfolding with more action throughout the game, it could not be more mistaken. You will have plenty of surprises early in the plot and they will continue as you advance.
Of course the game will dose your possibilities, but as you get more skills, dealing with more powerful enemies, exploring and, of course, dealing with the gods and giants of history, which will be a big challenge, the fights are getting more and more intense.
You will have to deal with gods attacking you, Valkyrie willing to kill, giant creatures, film struggles and more. God of War Ragnarök has more action than its predecessor.
Atreus is now playable
If you are used to the boy that climbed the back of Rates and was a great spoiled, you may forget. Atreus has grown and even takes the lead at times. He decides for himself and in a particular campaign will continue his way al1. In addition to being a playable character, it is not weak and is acquiring new powers along the plot, revealing many distinct skills.
Now it has a much larger magic and runic capacity, with new powers. For example, you can turn into wolf the same way as Rates activates the Spartan fury . At certain points of history he also becomes a bear. As if that were not enough he decides to go after Odin, learn magic from him, and solve a series of questions to avoid the dreaded Ragnarök.
Additional content remains amazing
Secondary quests are even better than the first game. It's something that resembles The Witcher 3, as they are as exciting as the main plot. Wait well-worked dialogues, difficult secondary chiefs, deplorable areas and more.
Of course the rewards are also useful for equipping Rates, Atreus and the rest of the team (yes, it's not just Rates and Atreus on the team). However, the challenges are also larger than those of the main plot. You will deal with many stronger secondary chiefs than primaries. Don't expect anything at the Queen of Valkyrie, but it's still challenging.
Exploration is oader
Despite following the same line as the previous game, being an adventure game that flirts with an open world, God of War Ragnarök allows you to visit the nine kingdoms and explore them on foot, boat or a mount.
Maps are larger and have more possibilities for discoveries. You never know if you will find a boss, a valuable item, a secondary quest or even a horde of enemies to earn a good amount of XP.
It is worth mentioning that the gameplay is more fluid and oader. In the 2018 game we see that Rates was a bit locked... at least compared to Rates that massacred Olympus and flew with the wings of Icarus. Many parts required a more complex path, but it was something that Rates would really solve with a jump... especially after the fight with Balder where they jumped amazing distances.
God of War Ragnarök improves in this regard, inging a more dynamic rates, which uses the chaos blades to hang and jump on the walls. Atreus is not left behind either.
We will not have many desired characters
Here is a weak point. Throughout the plot, many gods appear, but many of the most relevant do not arise. The same can be said of giants. For example, the goddess HEL , daughter of Loki, does not appear, or Sigurd (better known as Siegfried ) does not arise, nor the goddess Frigga , the goddess DUNN or even the god agg .
It would be an epic opportunity to mix the story with Nibelung's ring , but that was not d1. Which does not mean that it is bad or incomplete, but that they were wasted a great treasure.
In addition, we know that Cory Barlow and director Eric Williams have already confirmed that this will be the last Rates game in Nordic mythology. This was the last opportunity to adapt the best known stories.
